Education of staffs for safety

Safety and security of a Nuclear Power Plant are influenced by numerous factors and a determining one is the ability of its crew. An average industrial facility demands appropriate education, training and practice from its personnel. The crew of a NPP works among numerous other legal and official regulations. These demands and the appropriate and supervised training to fulfill them are guaranteed by personal documentation claiming the required competence (knowledge, practice and operating skills) of the members of the crew.

According to the Atomic Law, manager of the MVM Paks NPP is responsible for the training of the crew. It’s a hard task considering the length and complexity of the system of the trainings, courses and examinations required to a person for advancing to a crew member that is a person who could work in the direct operation, control and maintenance of the NPP.

Personnel involved in activities with direct connection to the safety of the NPP have to gain a license before starting their autonomous work. In the case of classified positions licenses issued by the Nuclear Authority in the other cases by the Paks NPP. Getting a license requires successful examinations and an adequate health and psychic state. Validity of the license is 3 years and revalidation requires an exam directly before the expiration of the license and regular maintaining trainings with 2 to 20 day duration in yearly base.

The training system should prepare the workers of the NPP to be ready the challenges of the everyday practice. It covers gaining adequate level of knowledge and skills, moreover developing and maintaining of high level safety awareness both in mental processes and in conducting tasks.
