The social responsibility activities of the MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant

The MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant knows and believes that it is not satisfactory just to produce an economic performance, but there is a need for finding a way to recognize, choose and support social values.

The social responsibility represented by the policy and practice of the plant is based on national and regional acquaintance and appreciation of the MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant. The priorities of social goals set for the plant prevail in this case as well. The MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant finances and helps the realization of initiatives, improvements and projects which aim at fostering and creating values, are of a public purpose, and are realized at top quality.

The work and co-operation with the participants of this activity are greatly enhanced by the following:

• the majority of society, as well as the national and county public opinion approve the existence and operation of the plant
• the plant operates in an open way, which means approximately 25,000 visitors per year
• the practice of social responsibility for public purposes, and its supportive system based on this works in a comprehensible and basically public way
• the plant constantly tries to adapt up-to-date forms of sponsorship in order to meet new expectations

The company helps all that makes ther country more precious, richer and more beautiful in the fields of science and education. It finances with special care basic, secondary and upper levels of education in their new initiatives, groups of teachers upgrading the syllabus, and societies and foundations. We gladly side with the best, but it is important for us to help young people dealing with the difficulties of being career starters. We found and award prizes, furthermore we organize trade competitions and scholarships for students.

The ‘Nation’s Plant for the Nation’s Theatre’ is an outstanding sponsorship, but we also support civil organizations, societies and churches.

To achieve sports results of world-wide importance it is essential to have the appropriate conditions during the preparations. By providing these conditions we support many outstanding and talented representatives of several sports. When it comes to sports, the sponsorship contract of most importance is the one which has a greater history and brought results for both sides of the agreement in the past few years. The MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant, as the Golden Class Sponsor of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, helps achievement of the aims of the Hungarian Olympic Movement, and the successful appearance of Hungarian athletes at the Summer and Winter Games.

We help the protection of our environment and health via several programmes. We deal with high priority with every initiative through which we can contribute effectively to the protection of our near and far environment, rehabilitation of areas that have suffered a natural disaster and the safekeeping of our health. The most significant example of this was the foundation of the Duna-mecsek Területfejlesztési Alapítvány. We put great emphases on saving the Danube backwater, the yearly ragweed eradication activity, and some individual events like the Danube swimming. We run the water-sport centre and the angler lake network; we support the beautification of the town.

We greatly support health-care in Paks and in the region. The health-care sponsorship given by the plant is important for the town and the region in order to maintain quality, and to develop some parts of the service.

Apart from sponsorship, we also pursue donating, charity activity as well. The company is constantly present in the aid work done for those who are socially disadvantaged or are in poor condition due to health or other reasons. This is especially so in terms of natural catastrophes or in cases where rapid and effective action is needed. The chief executive officer of the plant decides – after an appropriate evaluation - on the more than a thousand sponsorship applications received by the MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant. The amount of money spent on sponsorship is determined by the leaders of MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant. The administrative and technical work connected to sponsorships is done by the Information and Visitors Center.
